Welcome to COB 2014: VIBC Chair Manpreet Dhillon

It’s been 10 years.

VIBC’s City of Bhangra Festival began in 2004, captivating our community through bold displays of music and dance, the likes of which had never been seen in this region.

In the fall of 2005, I joined VIBC as an event volunteer. I was part of the original crew that started the “Downtown Bhangra” phenomenon – an event that now caps off the last two days of our ten-day City of Bhangra Festival, and draws thousands in attendance every year. Soon after, I joined the board of directors, where I had the pleasure of working with other dedicated individuals to create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to connect through the sheer joy and awesomeness of bhangra.

Now, as Chair of VIBC, I see that bhangra is so much more than a style of folk music and dance from the Punjab. In fact, it’s a movement with the power to inspire new generations of artists and performers to innovate, collaborate, and bring positive change to the global community. It’s a movement I’m proud to be part of.

I’m also proud of our many passionate and dedicated supporters – from our board of directors, community advisors, and volunteers, to our performers, partners, funders, and sponsors. The Festival is built on the commitment of these organizations and individuals who give generously of their time and energy to make the change they want to see in society. We can’t thank them enough.

The 10th Anniversary of the City of Bhangra Festival will have you smiling and dancing as you move through the many exciting events we have planned for this year. On behalf of the board and our many dedicated staff and volunteers, I look forward to celebrating with you during the largest and longest-running bhangra festival in North America. I encourage you to attend, to engage, to connect.
