VIBC Seeks Executive Director, Public Relations & Media Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator

Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society (VIBC) is non-profit arts organization dedicated to creating an all-inclusive community through the celebration and joy of bhangra. We accomplish this by producing an annual 10-day festival with over 350 local, national, and international performers showcasing their diverse talents at a variety of unique venues in Vancouver and Surrey; and with year-round programming that is focused on community, youth, and artistic excellence and innovation. VIBC has been successfully operating for 12 years, and is virtually volunteer run, with over 135 volunteers dedicating over 10,000 hours of their time to a shared vision every year.

As we continue to build bridges within our community through the arts, and create new opportunities for dialogue on culture and identity, we need strong leaders to ensure our success. We are now seeking an Executive Director, Public Relations & Media Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator to join our dynamic team.

Paid Position; Deadline August 28, 2015

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing oversight and operational leadership to VIBC, playing an integral role in defining our strategic direction, development, and future growth. We are looking for someone truly visionary to help us shape a brilliant future and put it into action. Executive Director Position Posting


Paid position; Deadline September 30, 2015

This is an exciting opportunity to provide integral support to VIBC through the operations and activities of the Marketing Committee. This 4-month paid position runs mid February 2016 to mid June 2016. Duties include:

  • Planning, developing, and implementing PR strategies
  • Liaising with colleagues and key spokespeople
  • Liaising with and responding to enquiries from media, individuals, and other organizations, in person or via telephone and email
  • Researching, writing, and distributing press releases to targeted media
  • Collating and analysing media coverage
  • Devising and coordinating photo opportunities
  • Organising press conferences/media events
  • Maintaining and updating information on the organisation's website
  • Managing and updating information and engaging with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities
  • Fostering community relations through events such as open houses and through involvement in community initiatives
  • Managing PR aspects of potential crises

Skills & Experience:

  • Administrative, PR, and media experience

Volunteer Position; Deadline September 15, 2015

This is an excitingvolunteer opportunity to provide leadership and support to the Marketing Committee for VIBC’s City of Bhangra Festival, presented annually in May/June. Duties include:

  • Creating and carrying out the Festival marketing strategy with Marketing Committee members
  • Coordinating Marketing Committee members to develop specialized promotional strategies for individual events
  • Assisting in developing sponsor relationships and partnerships with media outlets
  • Writing and editing copy for marketing materials in print and online
  • Establishing performance measures for communications activities and track success
  • Establishing mechanisms to receive audience feedback and evaluate success
  • Managing distribution strategies
  • Coordinating print and distribution of marketing collateral
  • Working closely with the graphic designer, PR Coordinator, communications team, and brand ambassador to ensure marketing strategy is on point
  • Reporting to the Executive Director
  • Managing the Marketing Committee and ensuring that the team is fully resourced to successfully carry out Festival marketing needs

Paid Position; Deadline September 30, 2015

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and the reason for our success. We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to work in consultation and cooperation with the General Manager, Festival Production Managers, and Committees to develop and manage the annual volunteer program including budget and assessing necessary resources. This paid position runs February 2016 to mid June 2016. Duties include overseeing and administering the volunteer program as follows:

  • Creating and updating volunteer policies, procedures, and registration forms
  • Liaising with Production Team, Executive Director, and Committee Members to understand their specific roles and assess their volunteer needs
  • Establishing recruitment strategies and soliciting free broadcast media event promotions
  • Recruiting volunteers and ensuring they are appropriately matched and trained for a position
  • Organizing schedules and training
  • Facilitating volunteer meetings and orientation
  • Monitoring, supporting, motivating, and accrediting volunteers and their work
  • Managing budgets and resources
  • Contacting post-secondary institutions to recruit key committee members and establish relationships for future internship possibilities
  • Organizing volunteer appreciation event
  • Completing annual Volunteer Resource Report for organization before termination of contract
