Approached by Manjot Bains with suggestions about production, VIBC members immediately decided to invite her to join the board of directors. Just as quickly, Manjot convinced Mo and the others that a "competition" would not elicit as much support as a non-competitive event. So, the organization was renamed from Vancouver International Bhangra Competition to Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration. In 2006, VIBC introduced the City of Bhangra Festival with two days of free, open-air bhangra performances, including singers, musicians and dancers at Robson Square. The objective was share South Asian art forms for free to diverse groups of attendees. Manpreet Dhillon was the Event Coordinator for the first ever Downtown Bhangra concert. Shortly after she joined the board and stayed for 9 years after.
