Lots of changes at the top these days! Besides announcing Tarun Nayar as our new Artistic Director in August, we’re excited to share news about two more appointments we know will bring fantastic changes to VIBC. First up, please welcome Nicole Sirockman as VIBC’s new General Manager.
Nicole has been involved with non-profits for many years as project manager or festival director for major events ranging from cultural festivals to sports competitions. Most recently, Nicole was Director of CelticFest 2015, where she helped implement the vision and production of this annual extravaganza and its flagship event—the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Before that, Nicole was Marketing Manager and Project Manager of Volleyball BC. As Project Manager, she helped organize the Provincials, Nationals, and Vancouver OPEN beach volleyball tournaments.
We're thrilled that Nicole is joining VIBC, where she’ll be working with our dedicated board, staff, volunteers, and community partners to help shape and create the future as we move into our 12th year of operation.
Says Nicole: “I love working with organizations to help showcase their talents to the general public. This position will allow me to take my experience and to help VIBC continue to grow.” Thanks, Nicole, and welcome to the VIBC family!
Next, we’d like to introduce our new Executive Director—although this lady really needs no introduction! As of mid-November, Anita Lal takes on the challenge after serving as VIBC General Manager since 2013.
Besides keeping us organized and constantly inspired by her passion for the arts, for VIBC, and for creating cultural connections between communities, Anita brings tons of experience to her new position. She has a background in International Direct Marketing and worked in the intense and diverse global market for 13 years before joining VIBC two years ago. She also has an extensive portfolio of volunteer and community engagement work with local organizations, and a keen interest in social justice.
Anita is expert in working under pressure and making sense out of chaos—which makes her a perfect fit for us here in the arts world! As Executive Director, she’ll be responsible for providing oversight and operational leadership to VIBC, and playing an integral role in defining our strategic direction, development, and future growth.
Anita says, "The last two years have been an incredible journey. Coming to the table with no experience in the arts, community building, or non-profits, VIBC gave me a life changing opportunity. When I accepted this position, I never imagined that I would actually be gaining more than I would be giving to this organization, because it does demand a lot! From Directors to volunteers to our community partners, sponsors, and performers, each relationship forged both professionally and personally, has been amazing. These experiences have provided me with a new lens and perspective when it comes to how I see the world. VIBC has given me a platform to understand the struggles of the past, appreciate the successes of today, and dream the beauty of tomorrow. I am looking forward to the next chapter and honoured to be a part of the VIBC story."
Please join us in welcoming Anita to her new role in shaping VIBC’s brilliant future!
