You may wonder what VIBC does post City of Bhangra Festival… do we close up shop, board up the windows, put on our “out of office” responders, grab our surf boards, and go searching for the most radical waves? Or do we head for the hills and spend our winter months in a secluded cabin, reading mystery novels and listening to classical music on our record players… maybe… but NO… VIBC’s work never stops!
Throughout the year, we work hard to meet our mandate to create programming that is accessible to all, engages all, and elevates the arts through education and experience. The annual City of Bhangra Festival is a prime example of this work, but it doesn’t stop there. We also create opportunities for community engagement by building partnerships with other cultural and educational organizations, supporting local arts initiatives, and working with professional instructors to help teach the art of bhangra to interested youth. Overall, we aim to create an inclusive community for all through the celebration and joy of bhangra—and to achieve this, we need your support, ideas and involvement!
Right now, we’re planning our Annual General Meeting for late November 2014. Presented in partnership with SFU Surrey, the discussion will focus on the opportunities open to VIBC as we enter our 11th year of operation. Building upon the amazing success of our 10th Anniversary celebration in 2014, we’re looking forward to new beginnings, renewing VIBC’s mandate, and refreshing our dedication to uniting (and exciting!) the hearts and minds of diverse audiences through the vibrancy of bhangra music, dance, poetry, and song.
Your evite to our AGM is coming soon. Hope you can join us!
