2014 has been quite a year! Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated VIBC’s 10th anniversary of operation with an AGM to remember; from May 29 - June 7, we kicked it with the best City of Bhangra Festival so far in May (10 days, 8 events, 300 performers, over 16,000 attendees, and more than 300,000 people reached through our online #BhangraLove campaign); and throughout the year VIBC worked hard to create community connections by building partnerships with other cultural organizations, supporting local arts initiatives, and creating educational opportunities for youth.
In addition to our funders, we are so fortunate to have the amazing support of so many cultural, corporate, and media partners, whose energy and enthusiasm both drive and inspire us to constantly challenge the status quo, while sharing the spirit of love, generosity, celebration, and inclusivity that is the bhangra movement. We also have the most incredible support from our many volunteers: in 2014 alone, our 100 Festival volunteers, 35 committee volunteers, and 13 board members donated over 9000 hours of their time to VIBC.This level of commitment is truly the embodiment of #BhangraLove, and we just can’t thank them enough!
Now, as we begin our 11th year, we’re ready to re-imagine, re-create, and re-invent who and what we want to be. Planning is already well underway for our City of Bhangra Festival 2015 (save the dates: May 28–June 6), and we’ll be announcing some fantastic pre-Festival programming early in the new year. We’ll be creating community youth initiatives that shape the leaders of tomorrow through workshops, panel discussions, conferences, and camps; and we’ll be building on our existing partnerships and looking to create exciting new ones. Let us know if you want to be part of the family!! We welcome you to join VIBC as a volunteer, community partner, or corporate or media sponsor.
Thank you again for a fantastic year, and your amazing support of VIBC. Wishing you happy holidays and a whole lot of #BhangraLove!
