You might recognize Desirée Dawson as the humble, warm-hearted Vancouver girl who triumphed over all rivals to win CBC's Searchlight talent competition. Or you might know her as the young artist with a ukulele who's rocking stages around the world. But, in addition to her soulful ukulele tunes, Desirée has had chart topping singles in the dance music scene and various label releases around the globe - and is widely regarded as a major star on the rise.
Her song, Hide, garnered her the title of CBC Searchlight 2016 Winner, and was her first solo single on iTunes and Spotify. The tune made it onto the Top 100 Songs of 2016 and Essential Songs of 2016 lists on CBC web and radio.
This past summer, Desirée played the CBC music festival, Surrey Fusion Festival, TD Concerts by the Pier, the CBC Nooners series, many Vancouver Pride concerts, and opened for blues legend Jim Byrnes and reggae sensation Jah9. Desirée is passionate about connection and healing, using the power of music to impact her listeners in an emotionally honest way. Her music has travelled the world, linking her with musicians, producers, artists and audiences in America, Jamaica, Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa and beyond.
Her latest single, Wild Heart, was released on iTunes on January 4, 2017, and can also be found on Spotify and all digital music outlets - and has already made it on to CBC Radio 2's Top 20 list!
