Eight days, ten stages, hundreds of performers, and the beautiful cities of Surrey and Vancouver were once again the centre of #BhangraLove!
From the magic of our June 11 opening event, Crash An Indian Wedding, to our very first desi sketch comedy/bhangra burlesque/drag night at the Rio, to singer Vijay Yamla at the Fox, to six amazing women sharing their stories on the road to success at Bhangra: SHE, and of course to Vancouver’s biggest backyard party ever—Downtown Bhangra—on June 17 and 18 on the plaza of the VAG, followed by afterparties to end all afterparties, this year’s City of Bhangra Festival was an amazing experience from start to finish!
Thanks to all of our wonderful Festival performers, sponsors, supporters, staff, volunteers and – especially – our audiences, for making this year’s Festival the best ever. Your energy, enthusiasm, and no-holds-barred participation guarantees our success every spring, and makes VIBC the vital organization it is today. (Click here for a list of all of our amazing sponsors: http://www.vibc.org/sponsors.)
Be sure to stay in touch with VIBC, as our work continues through the year – not only in organizing the City of Bhangra Festival (work starts TODAY on COB 2017!), but also by creating ongoing community engagement through building partnerships with other cultural organizations, supporting local arts initiatives, and working with professional instructors to help teach the art of bhangra to interested youth. VIBC focuses on creating programming that is accessible to the general public, engages all communities, and elevates the arts through education and experience. Our vision is to create an inclusive community for all through the celebration and joy of bhangra, and we need your ideas and support to make this happen!
Follow us on social media, subscribe to our newsletter (sign up at vibc.org), or, even better: become a volunteer. VIBC is 99% volunteer-powered, and just look what we can achieve with all that energy!
Thank you again for being a part of City of Bhangra Festival 2016, and see you next year!
