May 29 is go time for the City of Bhangra Festival! Through June 7, the Festival celebrates a form of folk music and dance from the Punjab regions of India and Pakistan, delivered with all the excitement of the 21st century. Ten days, 8 events, 23 headliners, 14 teams, 300 performers in total, and 15,000 local and international attendees in Vancouver and Surrey will celebrate this year’s theme of #BhangraLove.
The Festival includes favourite events such as TransFusion at SFU Woodwards, Media Arts Mehfil at the New Surrey City Hall (more about this below!), Bhangra on Main at the Fox Cabaret, Downtown Bhangra on the VAG Plaza, plus many more. Mark May 31 for a special concert at the Vogue with Pakistani mystic Saieen Zahoor, and June 3 at the Fox with Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch (aka “QB”), a young singer whose sound exemplifies the eclectic sound of contemporary Pakistani pop mixed with jazz, rock, and Sufi folk.
