Every spring, VIBC presents the City of Bhangra Festival, encouraging cultural exploration and community participation through a series of diverse performances highlighting a form of folk music and dance from the Punjab regions of India and Pakistan. By showcasing a form of dance and music created hundreds of years ago—and now experiencing an explosion in global popularity—the Festival seeks to bring the excitement of 21st century bhangra to local audiences.
Festival 2014 spanned ten days in two cities (Vancouver and Surrey), and was by all accounts a huge success, with 8 events, 300 performers, 16,425 local and international attendees, and more than 300,000 people reached through social media channels!
Festival 2015 is set for May 28–June 6, and we’re already stoked to make this our best yet. Watch this space for updates, announcements, and invitations to pre-Festival events and VIBC happenings throughout the year. And remember to like us social-media style: use and share this list to show us some #BhangraLove!
