The VIBC Society
The Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society (VIBC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to elevating and promoting the Indian dance form of Bhangra. The VIBC organizes two major annual events, the City of Bhangra Festival and the NEXT Bhangra Competition, in addition to partnering with numerous arts and community events throughout the year.
Our Story
One night at a Tim Horton's coffee shop somewhere in the Fraser Valley, three guys sat at a table drinking black coffee, orange pekoe tea and eating double chocolate donuts. They were discussing events in Vancouver and the need to target the South Asian market. Out of their discussion came the idea for an international event that would draw elite performers from across the globe to compete on-stage in Vancouver.
They talked to friends about the viability of such a venture and then began recruiting star players who would help make this vision into a reality. The group of three grew to 4, 6 & then 8. The VIBC was born. Since then, the small group has grown into a dynamic group of professionals volunteering their time to collectively present sensational events throughout the year.
We want people to explore their creativity, celebrate culture and participate in the arts. The Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration is our contribution to the world.
