On Friday June 20, VIBC, Darpan Magazine, and Swaraj Radio 96.1 hosted an amazing evening with mystical Sufi singer Saieen Zahoor at the Aria Banquet and Convention Centre in Surrey.
More than 400 people attended this very special event, which was MC’d by Lady B (Bali K. Deol), and included a reception, dinner, and lots of dancing! Vancouver artist Raju Johal opened for Saieen Zahoor, who was accompanied by musicians Karnveer Bhuller, Rayman Bhuller, Coach Sandhu, Kal Mattu, and Bruce Harding.
Zahoor is known worldwide for his mesmerizing music and magnetic presence onstage. Through his childhood in Pakistan, he mainly sang in dargahs (Sufi tombs/shrines), on the streets, and in festivals. In 2006, he received the prestigious BBC World Music Award, and has since performed in the UK, Japan, Ireland, India, Canada, and Norway. Just three weeks ago (May 31, 2014), as part of the City of Bhangra Festival, he performed at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, where he received no fewer than four standing ovations for his enchanting renditions of the devotional poetry of Rumi and Bulleh Shah.
VIBC, Darpan Magazine, and Swaraj Radio are thrilled to have come together to host this compelling artist in intimate mehfil style. Thank you to everyone who attended this magical night!
